New Resident Resources for Vicksburg-Warren County
Where Do I Go For...
Drivers License
Mississippi State law requires that new residents apply for a Mississippi driver's license within 60 days after residency is established. The Mississippi Highway Patrol issues licenses to applicants holding a valid out-of-state license upon successful completion of a signs, rules and vision test. A social security number is required of all applicants. You can visit the website of the Mississippi Highway Patrol or call (601) 638-5441 for hours of operation and testing dates.
License Plates
Newcomers have 30 days in which to purchase a license plate for all owned vehicles. Ad valorem and privilege taxes for both the city and county are assessed and paid to the County Tax Collector at the time the plate is purchased. Mississippi plates are issued based on the type, model and year of your vehicle and assessed on a depreciating scale. If you would like a pre-assessment of what your license plates will be for your vehicle you can contact the County Tax Collector at (601) 638-6181 and have your vehicle identification number (VIN) handy. The Warren County Tax Collectors office is located in the New Courthouse on 1009 Cherry Street.
Motor Vehicle Inspection Stickers
An annual inspection is required for every motor vehicle registered in the State of Mississippi. Inspection stations are located throughout the county and are designated by the Mississippi State Commissioner of Public Safety. For information on the location of the stations in Warren County you can contact the Commissioner's office at (601) 987-1249.
Voter Registration
In order to vote for public office, both city and county residents must register to vote. The voter registration office is located at the New Courthouse on 1009 Cherry Street.
Homestead Exemption Filing
